Premiering December 10th at 10PM ET/PT with back-to-back episodes, A&E will chronicle the case files of the Paranormal Research Society (PRS), a renowned  group comprised of Penn State University college students, in the dramatic new Real-Life series PARANORMAL STATE.

Penn State University student Ryan Buell gets a call from a client telling him that her eight-year-old son is seeing dead people in the family’s new home.  Ryan has a deep connection to this child before they even meet, as he too was terrified by paranormal experiences as a kid.  Ryan and the PRS team travel to the client’s home, interview the family and child and investigate to determine if there is evidence of paranormal activity or if what they are witnessing is just the imagination of a child.  As if this wasn’t enough for a paranormal investigator to handle, Ryan must be back in time for his Economics class the next morning.

Ryan Buell is clearly no ordinary college student. He’s the director/founder of PRS and the central character in PARANORMAL STATE.   Ryan and his college-age team of paranormal investigators spend their time investigating the strange and bizarre while trying to find balance within their young adult lives.  And it’s never easy.  The PRS team, which Ryan started in 2001, has worked on cases involving demonic possession and exorcism, assisted law enforcement on missing person’s cases, and have brought peace to frightened families. 

PARANORMAL STATE, from the producers of Laguna Beach, follows Ryan and the PRS as they set out on cases throughout the country. Through the use of Electronic Voice Phenomenon (EVP) recordings, client interviews, video documentation, old-fashioned research and the help from outside experts such as renowned psychics, demonologists and Penn State University psychologists and counselors, Ryan Buell and the PRS team delve dangerously into other worlds to try and help people who have no one else to turn to.

The first two cases in A&E’s Paranormal

First, in “Sixth Sense,” a worried mother calls the Paranormal Research Society (PRS) to help her son Matthew, a boy who sees dead people. Matthew’s story strikes a chord with Ryan - who also experienced paranormal activity as a child. Ryan investigates, and discovers that “Timmy”, the spirit Matthew sees most often, could actually be the spirit of a neighbor who died on the property years before the family moved there. When Ryan shows Matthew a picture of the real Timmy, the boy identifies him immediately!

In the second episode, “The Name,” airing at 10:30pm ET Ryan and company enlist the assistance of psychic Chip Coffey to help a single Mom who is experiencing paranormal activity in a home that was once the site of brutal murders.
