Kids Can Press has done it again. What you ask? Got me hooked on a kids graphic novel that’s what! First it was the Binky series (see Binky Takes Charge) and now it is Cat’s Cradle. I am starting to see a theme here and it is not cats (although I do love cats). Really awesome short graphic novels with good stories and good artwork is the theme.

In The Golden Twine we have a lot of anime elements without being overly anime (anime is just being done to death). The story and artwork have hints of anime/manga themes but they are not saturated with it. So, if like me, you are sick of seeing Pokemon knock offs check out The Golden Twine.

The publishers say this book is for ages 9 to 12 but I am going to say 9 & up as I think anyone with an appreciation for graphic novels might enjoy this story and be able to share it with someone younger.

We need to cultivate the geeks at a young age you know.

Here’s the publishers description of the book:

To most, Suri is just an orphan in a traveling caravan. But Suri is determined to prove she has the mettle of a monster tamer. When she unknowingly takes something valuable from a caitsith — a cat monster — she will have to quickly harness her powers … if she even has them!
